Dying leather boots?

I want to buy a new pair of horseback riding tall boots, and i found a pair on ebay that are my size. The problem is, they are brown, and i need to have black boots for showing. I was wondering if it is easy to dye leather, becuase it would save me a lot of money if i did. What do you have to do to prepare them, and what are the steps to dying leather. Also, where can i buy leather dye?

Is dying leather only for restoring small areas with scratches and scuffs to their natural color, or can you change the color of a large area, such as a boot?

While it is still on the market, Feibings Marine Black. To do a proper job you will need a bottle of Feibings Blue as well.

Clean the leather allow to dry.

With a felt dauber, apply an even coat of black to each boot. Allow to dry.

Buff each boot to remove flakes of residue.

Apply blue (over the black) in the same manner as before.

Allow to dry and buff.

Now, re-apply the black, allow to dry and buff.

You should not see a reddish sheen in the color of the boots.

That%26#039;s what the blue is for, to balance the color to even black. You may now polish to waterproof and seal in the color.
Reply:There is now a very good product on the market that will colour any leather black and is ideal for boots no matter what the finish is on them.
Reply:You can buy leather cleaner in horse tack stores and some shoe stores. All you need to do is clean the leather, and follow instructions. Good Luck! Hope I Helped!
